The forestry industry in general and the wood processing industry in particular are achieving good growth. If this rate is maintained, Vietnam's wood processing industry can fully achieve its export goal of 20 billion USD by 2025.

This was affirmed by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong at a meeting with Vietnam Timber and Forest Products Association (Viforest) and Southern wood processing associations at Joint Stock Company. AA factory (Long An), January 9.

According to Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong, in the context of many agricultural and aquatic products facing difficulties in exporting, forest products (including timber) continue to maintain high growth momentum, becoming one of the three sectors. The export turnover is over 10 billion USD with the total export turnover in 2019 reaching 11.3 billion USD.

Currently, the market for consuming wooden and processed wood products in Vietnam and globally is on the rise. Meanwhile, Vietnam has many advantages in terms of wood material sources, Vietnamese wood processing enterprises are active in updating technology, grasping market trends and increasingly asserting their position on the market. world furniture market.

Mr. Do Xuan Lap, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Wood and Forest Products, said that the timber processing and export industry was flourishing and creating a gathering of many local wood processing associations. Sustainable timber development, commensurate with the potential and available advantages, needs to complete each "piece" for the value chain of the timber industry.

Specifically, the demand for furniture consumption market is forecast to continue to increase, but businesses are having difficulty in finding land to build factories, expanding production to increase the size of the processing industry. Besides, scarcity of human resources and quality of raw materials are also urgent issues of the wood processing industry today.

Therefore, in order to achieve the export target of 20 billion USD by 2025 and sustainable development in the future, the forestry and wood processing associations think that a comprehensive solution is needed to complete the economic value chain. of the wood industry.

Specifically, it is necessary to plan concentrated production areas for timber enterprises; planning and training high-quality human resources to meet the industry's development needs; attaching importance to selecting and developing high quality raw material timber trees, suitable to the market consumption trend; create a favorable environment for businesses to invest in changing technologies, apply automation in production, improve productivity and product quality.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Chairman of the City Association of Fine Arts and Wood Processing. Ho Chi Minh emphasized that in order to improve the value and position of the wood industry, it is necessary to expand investment in completing the value chain from production - design - trade to branding for wooden products and interior products. of Vietnam. In fact, the consumption value of the global wood and furniture industry reached 450 billion USD, but the production value only accounted for 140 billion USD, the rest was divided equally into 3 areas: creativity, trade and brand. Although Vietnam's wood processing and export industry has been growing rapidly, it has only focused on the manufacturing sector.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh, the world market has passed the price competition stage, now it is competing for quality and the future will compete for creative value, individual style design. Therefore, design, trade and brand will play a vital role in creating competitiveness for Vietnam's wood and furniture processing industry in the long term./.
