Striving for 2020, the wood industry will reach 12 billion USD
2019 is considered a big victory year for Vietnam's export of wood and wood products with an impressive continuous growth, and exports to key markets have increased. This is the driving force for the wood industry to reach the export mark of US $ 12 billion in 2020.
According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in the first 11 months of 2019, the export of wood and wood products exceeded the US $ 9 billion mark for the first time (this is also the first commodity of the agricultural sector to surpass this landmark). reached 9.5 billion USD, up 18.1% compared to the same period in 2018. By mid-December, the export turnover of wood and wood products has reached approximately 10 billion USD and will certainly surpass 10 for the first time. billion USD at the end of the year.
From the beginning of the year until now, the export turnover of wood and wood products to key markets such as the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and the Netherlands ... all have impressive growth. Japan and Canada are two member markets of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Exports of timber and wood products in 2019 have grown well to these two markets, showing that the Vietnamese timber industry has initially taken advantage and effectively exploited commitments from the CPTPP Agreement.
The European Union (EU) is also considered a potential export market of Vietnam's timber industry. In the coming time, when Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) is ratified and officially takes effect, it is expected that Vietnam's export turnover of timber and wood products to the EU will have a growth step. More optimistic thanks to the reduction of tariff barriers according to the schedule.
From the above advantages, the Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that in 2020, the wood and wood products industry could completely reach the export mark of 12 billion USD.
